Monday Music Review: KidQuake from The Not-Its! And A Giveaway

Monday Music Review: KidQuake by The Not-Its!

Life can sometimes feel as uncertain and busy as being in an earthquake.  Especially when you have kids—things are humming along and then pow before you know it you’ve been knocked off of your feet and dishes are crashing to the floor.  That must be what the kindie rocker band The Not-its! were thinking about when they wrote KidQuake!

The Not-its! are a kindie rock band that take the rock part seriously.  Kid-Quake! is the fourth release from this Seattle-based band, and it’s loaded with kid-rocker sound.  I think it may be their best yet.

I’ve gotten several requests for music for an older kid crowd—that mid to upper elementary age where kids are trying to find their own sound and musical style, and I would definitely recommend KidQuake! for them (although it’s still equally appreciated by the younger set).  The themes on this album with songs like “Let’s Skateboard,” “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” “Full Tilt “and “Participation Trophy” have big-kid rock appeal.

Parents, who may have missed some quality electric guitar and rock and roll sound —reminiscent of the 80s and 90s— while their kids were controlling the car stereo will also enjoy this band.

The Not-its! are one of those classic parent-kid fusion bands that everyone in the family may find themselves requesting.  Some parents may even ignore this warning from The Not-its!:

“Music to be listened to under the supervision of children”

and keep the music playing after the morning carpool line drop off.

Here’s a video from the what may be my favorite track of all “Busy,” it may very well be the anthem of American families today.  Take their advice, slow down and don’t find yourselves too busy to check out KidQuake!

Right now we’re listening to Hootenanny by Jambo – another one if your recommended albums – and we LOVE it! Can’t wait to try The Not-its! Thx for your review.

I watched this video with my girls and they immediately said “I want to see it again.” and “Can we buy this CD?”

I took my son and granddaughter to see The Okee Dokee Brothers last night at our library. It was such fun. Nora loves music and I’m sure she would love this.

Sounds like fun! I’m glad you got an opportunity to see them play. A live performance is such a treat.

Currently my son really likes soundtrack songs. Hotel transylavanie – madagascar 3 (katy perry’s firework) and chihuahua movie songs are the most played right now.
