Tips on Pirate Music for Kids (Thursday 9/19 is Talk Like A Pirate Day)

It may come as a surprise to some of you that Thursday (September 19) is Talk Like A Pirate Day.  For those of us who celebrate pirates on a weekly basis, it will pretty much be life as normal.  (Rumor has it that BOTH of my boys are planning to be pirates AGAIN for Halloween, but the jury is still out on the final decision).

If you need some good tunes to help celebrate the day, here’s a replay of a playlist I created last year for Spotify of—

5 Great Pirate Play Songs for Boys

I created the list specifically with play in mind.  Cue the dress ups and dramatic sword fighting in your living room.  If you’re looking for some more great pirate music for your PITs (Pirates-In-Training); we also recently discovered this album at the library.  It was such a big hit in our house, my son cried when we had to return it—

Pirates of Caribbean: Swashbuckling Sea Songs is a collection of pretty much every pirate song Disney has ever had a part in from Muppet Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack music to the famous “Yo, Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)” song from the Magic Kingdom ride.  Don’t forget this is pirate music, and pirates sing about things like dead men, blowing things up and rum.  The lyrics, though pretty mild as far as pirates go, aren’t for the fainthearted.

Want to join in on the fun?

Visit the Official Talk Like A Pirate Day Site for more tips on all things pirate, including how to add some colorful phrases to your day (Fair Warning:  much of the content here is aimed at adults, but the basic phrases are certainly adaptable to families and they have several resources for parents and teachers including a page devoted to junior pirates).

-Aye! Thar be some good listenin’.
